Violence against women

The way out

The pathway out of violence is complex and requires time. Survivors face many barriers and an effective support for them needs an integrated approach, involving all local networks and focusing on individual needs.

Helpline 1522 represents the first possibility of help, to find a first specific answer. Anti-violence centers and shelters help in case of emergency and offer places and fundamental tools for a sustained support to women experiencing violence. Response to woman’s needs is targeted and built through a sound methodology.

Beside specialized services, there are also general services for survivors, as emergency room in hospitals, social and health services and places where reporting the offence as the police stations.

As foreseen by the Istanbul Convention, it is also necessary set up treatment programmes aimed at preventing perpetrators from re-offending, with a view to preventing further violence and changing violent behavioural patterns.
