Employment and unemployment

Istat estimates that 22.8 million persons were employed in the III quarter 2010, down 1.0% (-222 thousands) from III quarter 2009. Employment rate decreased to 56.7% from 57.5% III quarter 2009. Unemployed went up to 1,8 million people (+50 thousands). Unemployed rate was 7.6% from 7.3% III quarter 2009. Inactivity rate was 38.6%, increased 0.6 percentage point from III quarter 2009.
