Export of Italian regions

In the third quarter of 2020, exports increased in seasonally-adjusted terms, compared with the previous period, by +34.3% for the Centre, by +33.4% for the North-east, by +30.3% for the North-west and by +27.0% for the South and Islands.

In the first nine months of 2020, compared with the previous year, exports dropped in the Islands (-28.2%), in the North-west (-14.0%), in the Centre (-11.8%), in the North-east (-10.4%) and in the South (-10.1%).

In the first nine months of 2020, more relevant falls, according to their contribution to the total export decrease, were recorded in Lombardia (-13.4%), Piemonte (-17.6%), Veneto (-11.0%) and Emilia-Romagna (-10.6%) while increases were recorded only in Molise (+31.4%) and Liguria (+1.1%).

2019 final data on foreign trade have been consolidated and data related to the first five months of 2020 have been revised, using the Intrastat declarations that became available after 30 June 2020, at the end of the suspension of the transmission obligation, provided for by the “Cura Italia” Decree (Law Decree 17 March 2020, No 18) among the measures to support businesses in the first phase of the Covid-19 crisis.
