Foreign trade and import prices - September 2024
In September 2024, seasonally-adjusted data, compared to August 2024, increased both for exports (+1.3%) and for imports (+1.2%). Exports rose by +2.4% for EU countries and increased slightly for non-EU countries (+0.2%). Imports increased by +3.0% for EU countries and declined by -1.3% for non-EU countries.
Over the last quarter, seasonally-adjusted data, compared to the previous one, decreased for exports (-0.6%) and increased for imports (+0.8%).
In September 2024, compared to the same month of the previous year, exports fell by -2.2% and imports by -3.2%. Outgoing flows declined for both EU countries (-3.0%) and non-EU countries (-1.4%). Incoming flows increased by +1.1% for the EU area and dropped by -8.8% for the extra-EU area.
In September 2024, trade balance registered a surplus of +2,580 million Euros (-1,175 million Euros deficit for EU countries and +3,755 million Euros surplus for non-EU countries). Excluding energy, trade balance surplus amounted to +6,477 million Euros.
In September 2024, import prices decreased by 0.7% on monthly basis (unchanged for the euro zone, -1.5% for the non-euro zone). Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, import prices decreased by 0.1% (-0.1% for the euro zone, unchanged for the non-euro zone).
Import prices, compared to the same month a year ago, decreased by 0.5% (unchanged for the euro zone, -0.9% for the non-euro zone).
2023 data on foreign trade have been revised and made final. The online database www.coeweb.istat.it has been updated.
